Embracing Shadowed Order is an invitation to look beyond the obvious, exploring how light and shadow coexist, and to find my story of overcoming within that space. As someone living with obsessive-compulsive disorder, my long-time habit of meticulously arranging objects has drawn criticism and misunderstanding.
For a while, I found life occurring away, beyond the lines at times, but the reflections of buildings in glass windows mirror both my inner self and the external world, representing a process of self-reflection and understanding. The years I spent hiding this habit were filled with loneliness, but now I embrace that struggle and infuse my life into my photography. This series captures my experiences of inner conflict and realization.
The seemingly chaotic graffiti represents my turbulent past, while the lone basketball hoop symbolizes the solitude I once felt. Stepping through the door, I found myself focusing, changing, aware of the spaces in between. The paint rainbow on a dark surface symbolizes hope and new possibilities, offering a brief yet warm moment of clarity. Even the faint rainbow behind the camera, it can be felt in the careful composition of each frame.
A bedtime photograph is my effort to capture the hidden beauty at the intersection of light and shadow. By embracing shadows and celebrating light, I sought to reveal the delicate balance that exists in my life and art, inviting viewers to discover their own light and shadow. The photographs were taken during sunset to capture a dim yet natural light. I wanted to explore the cityscape in detail, using a deep depth of field to ensure the foreground and background were both clearly visible.
